Idris Elba looks ready for battle in first ‘Pacific Rim’ photo

Four years after “Hellboy II,” Guillermo del Toro returns with another Sci-Fi entry, “Pacific Rim,” which stars “Prometheus” actor Idris Elba. Fans finally get a look at Elba in full costume and can piece together the atmosphere of “Rim.”

Movie Hole published the scans on Wednesday from the latest Total Film Magazine.

The “Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance” star is joined by “Hellboy” actor Ron Perlman, who battles “the finest f***ing monsters ever committed to screen” alongside Elba.

Del Toro profane description of the creatures in “Pacific Rim” sets the bar pretty high, but Elba claims he’s an actor’s actor first, discussing the “Pan’s Labyrinth” director in an interview published by Collider this week.

“He loves actors.  You realize, when you see the playbacks, that we are part of this huge comic book that’s in his head, and he’s molding us, as actors, bit by bit and frame by frame and line by line.  He’s very, very pedantic and he shoots in small sequences, which is great, but it’s a very different discipline to learn.”

Elba’s character, Stacker Pentacost, will battle monstrous creatures called the Kaiju. The battle suit may part of fighting these creatures with robots called Jaegers.

The film also stars Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day and Max Martini

Travis Beacham, “Clash of the Titans,” authored the screenplay and Warner Bros will distribute the film.

“Pacific Rim” opens on July 12th, 2013.
