TobyMac performs ‘Get Back Up’ on The View

Christian artist Toby Mac played a visit to ABC’s “The View” on Friday, even performing a song to honor Sherri Shepard’s birthday.

Shepard personally requested the five-time Grammy Award winning and multi platinum selling artist perform with his band Diverse City to celebrate Shepherd’s birthday.

TobyMac and the band took to the stage and performed “Get Back Up” from his album “Tonight.”

As a finale he went directly into a Sherri Shepard ‘Happy Birthday’ rap:

“So Happy Birthday Sherri, this goes out to you/and all the lovely ladies who watch over you/This is your birthday song/Your birthday D—/ they flew us from Nashville to New York City/to say…say…say… Happy Birthday!”

After the performance, Shepard asked what sets TobyMac apart from other artists.

“For us, and for me, we try to write songs about…you know, the things we are going. Life. The ups-and-downs of it. The times we fall  short, the times we overcome, and trying to pursue passionately a faith in God in this crazy world.”

His latest album “Tonight” received a nod for “Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album.” The Grammy nominated single from the hit record “City On Our Knees” track topped the sales and radio charts faster than any of his previous singles, spending 8 weeks at #1 on the Christian Audience Chart.

Tonight concludes the unplugged “A Night of Stories and Songs” tour tonight in Ft. Wayne, Indiana.
