The Master of Ceremonies, John Michael Chambers, came to the stage to set one main goal: “connect with people of likemind”. Mark Cross of the Campaign for Liberty echoed a similar theme of unification between Republicans, Libertarians, Conservatives, Constitutionalists and Tea Party supporters.

The Marriott Waterside in Tampa was not host to a sea of angry protesters wielding signs portraying a Nazi in the White House or spewing racial insults.

No, this was a solemn crowd who began a three day convention with a prayer to God proclaming they are not “Afraid to seek your (God’s) pressence).

Sure Chambers graciously thanked various sponsors, donors and vendors, but the convention kicked off the “Political Education Event” with a poem called “An American Soldier” read by Pamela Edmisson.

~An American Solider~

What is it in a man or even a boy

that drives him to become a Solider?

Why would he be willing to sacrifice so much, possibly his life, for such a cause?

Is it his patriotic love for his country, his love for his family, or his love for true freedom in American?

Maybe the reason is to fight for Justice, to be called Brave, to have no fear, and to be committed to something greater than himself.

The reason why, he cant explain.

Honorable, Trustworthy, and Courageous

~He is an American Solider~

He is trained and disciplined like no other.

As he’s starving or dying or thirst its heart and spirit that keep him alive. For he is strong.

Its Justice he believes in, and fights for it daily.

His prayer at night is “Lord give me strength for I can not go on without you.”

~He is an American Solider~

He knows the true meaning and purpose of team-work and self discipline.

He stands by his brothers and never leaves their sides; for he is willing to lay down his life for them.

He is not afraid of the dark places, the unknown, or the dangerous. But he has courage.

~He is an American Solider~

To see his country’s beautiful flag still flying in the battlefield brings him great joy.

A fire in his eyes exists; and he charges at his enemies with a victorious shout.

Amongst the chaos of war he is still, and knows God is with him wherever he goes.

Though he is wounded, he pushes on…and fights, he fight to his death.

~He is an American Solider~

He is a patriot and loves his country. He takes pride in what America stands for; and to him Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness is something worth fighting for.

At night he dreams of coming home to his family again.

He does not wish for fame or recognition but gives God praise that he’s still alive.

The content of his character is noble and virtuous and he walks with a sense of bravery.

To the pledge of allegiance he stands with integrity and proudly salutes to the Stars and Stripes.

~He is an American Solider~

His country is dear to him; and that is why he protects the freedom it promises.

He is grateful to live in the “Land of the free and the home of the Brave.”

He respects and cherishes those who have died for this great nation; for they will never be forgotten in his mind.

~He is an American Solider~

He is: Honorable in his actions…..

Trustworthy at all times…..

Courageous on the battlefield…..

Willing to sacrifice his life…..

He is: Brave at heart…..

Committed to excellence…..

Always dependable…..

Disciplined in his mind…..

Always loyal…..

A warrior til his death…..and in God he put his trust.

~For he is an American Solider~

Pamela Edmisson

A stirring read by the young woman brought applause and cheers from the conference room of self-proclaimed patriots and defenders of the Constitution.

A humble beginning to a convention rooted in their passion and love of America. The sixteen-year-old began he poem with her favorite Bible verse: Joshua 1:9

“Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid”

Be strong…words that resonated throughout the room.
