South Carolina tea party backed Republican, Nikki Haley, won the South Carolina governor’s race, making her the first female ever to serve as governor of the southern state.

Haley won the race by defeating state Sen. Vincent Sheheen at the last minute. She will be replacing current governor Mark Sanford.
